What 500+ hours has taught me
This is my season. My birthday is in September, cooler weather makes me ridiculously happy, and this year, I can feel the ways I’m shifting and transforming right along with the season.
One of those shifts is a renewed commitment to my own growth and learning.
So I’m excited to share that I’m pursuing my PCC credential through the International Coaching Federation (ICF)!
For those outside the coaching world, ICF is one of the leading global organizations for professional coaching, and PCC stands for Professional Certified Coach—a credential that recognizes experienced coaches who have demonstrated significant coaching experience, training, and competency.
One requirement is 500 hours of coaching experience.
When I recently sat down and added up my hours, I was thrilled to discover that I had already surpassed that milestone!
And when I think about that number, 500+ hours, I don’t just think about hours on a spreadsheet. I think about what has happened inside those hours.
That’s 500+ hours helping clients envision what they want for their lives and leadership, setting goals, committing to action, and removing roadblocks.
500+ hours celebrating wins and regrouping when things don’t quite go their way.
500+ hours helping people get more comfortable experimenting, failing, learning, adjusting, and trying again.
500+ hours helping clients strengthen their self-leadership, follow through, trust themselves, and build confidence.
There is something incredibly gratifying about realizing how much practice, growth, connection, and transformation those hours represent.
And now, I get to become a student again at Lumia, where I completed my first coaching certification.
Of course, I’m excited about the doors the PCC credential may open professionally. But there’s another reason I’m genuinely looking forward to the process:
I just love to learn!
Apparently, the assessments agree. Learning shows up prominently in the signature themes identified in both my Gallup CliftonStrengths and VIA Character Strengths assessments.
Give me a new framework to explore, a question to wrestle with, a skill to practice, or an opportunity to get better at something I care deeply about, and I am happy.
So while I’m proud of those 500+ hours, I’m equally excited about what comes next: more learning, more practice, more stretching, and more opportunities to become an even better coach.
If you’re ready for your next chapter and want an experienced coach alongside you as you clarify what you want and move toward it, I’d love to work with you.
