Cyclospora?! Ain’t nobody got time for that!
I've been talking about joy for many years now, and I decided that the pandemic, the murder of George Floyd, and everything else happening at the time was the perfect moment to write about joy and Blackness. That work became my first book, The Joy of Thriving While Black.
I created the brand Everyday Yellow because I believe joy can be found in every single day. The name came to me while I was teaching my Own Your Time workshop to a group of executive women leaders three years ago. I showed them how I color code my calendar for different activities and shared that yellow is for fun, joyful, and social activities.
I mentioned that I plan my week on Sunday, and that every day has to have some yellow in it. A marketing expert in the room said, "that's a brand!" And the rest is history.
This doesn't mean every day needs to be a party or a spa day. Finding joy in every day is as much about what you plan as it is about what you notice and savor.
Peaches
Here's what's been bringing me joy lately: Hanging out at my favorite coffee shop and chatting with the owners' sweet children. Pulling over to look at the goats who hang out in a yard in my old neighborhood. Buying peaches from a local farm.
Bonus: local produce might help you avoid whatever cyclo-explosive poop situation is going around right now. Ain't nobody got time for that!
What's bringing you joy these days?
